Blockchain-powered internet expands in Philippines via World Mobile, DITO CME

World Mobile, a blockchain-powered mobile network with a sharing economy model, has announced a major partnership with DITO CME to bring blockchain-driven internet connectivity to millions of users in the Philippines.

In an announcement shared with crypto.news on Feb. 5, World Mobile said its collaboration with DITO Telecom’s holding company will expand internet access to over 25 million Filipinos. The integration comes amid renewed efforts to drive crypto and blockchain adoption in the Philippines.

As part of this strategic alliance, the companies will leverage World Mobile’s decentralized physical infrastructure network technology alongside DITO CME’s network of operators.

According to both companies, the goal is to enhance mobile and broadband connectivity across the Philippines, with a particular focus on underserved rural areas.

Micky Watkins, CEO of World Mobile Group, commented:

“This partnership with DITO CME represents a significant milestone in our mission to democratize access to connectivity across the globe. By leveraging blockchain technology and a decentralized sharing economy model, we can empower communities and provide connectivity solutions that ensure no one is left behind”

A blockchain-powered solution not only improves overall network reach but also drives innovation, accelerating the growth of digital finance across the country.

Expanding blockchain-powered connectivity to rural communities is a key focus of the World Mobile and DITO CME partnership. In addition to World Mobile’s DePIN technology, the platforms will integrate Starlink-powered AirNodes to enhance coverage.

The partnership also introduces DTaka, a blockchain-based e-wallet integrated into the DITO CME ecosystem. DTaka uses a dual-token model: a stablecoin to facilitate remittances and mobile money transfers, and a utility token for gamification and loyalty rewards.

Rollout of the new features, including the DTaka wallet, is set to begin in 2025 within the Philippines. World Mobile and DITO CME also plan to expand these capabilities across the World Mobile Chain and the DTaka app in the coming months.
