Amanda Seyfried wants 2004’s ’Mean Girls’ quoted on her ‘grave’

Amanda Seyfried seems to be really proud of Mean Girls.

Nearly two decades after Mean Girls became a pop culture phenomenon, Seyfried is still embracing its legacy—so much so that she hopes its iconic lines follow her to the afterlife.

During a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz pointed out the movie’s lasting impact, telling Seyfried, “Until the day you die, a 14-year-old girl will come up to you every day and quote you as if [Mean Girls] just came out the day before.”

Seyfried, who famously played the lovable and clueless Karen Smith, was more than happy with that idea.

“I hope they quote it on my grave,” she joked. “In many ways, it was just a perfect movie.”

Reflecting on why Mean Girls continues to resonate, Seyfried noted its unique ability to bring people together.

“People relate to it still, and it really — it connected us. And it continues to,” she shared. “And I will always be excited to talk about it.”

For Seyfried, the 2004 comedy wasn’t just her big break—it was her first-ever film experience.

Starring alongside Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Lizzy Caplan, and Tina Fey, she found herself part of an instantly quotable teen classic.

Seyfried also reflected holding onto the memories of making the film.

“I truly think the experience of making it has nothing to do with how well it did, for sure,” she explained.

“I think the experience for me is very specific, because I’d never been in a movie before. I’d never been on a set like that before. And I was working with people who had. So, for me, it was just, everything was new.”

She recalled the natural chemistry between the cast members as well.

“The relationships were new. We all just got along so beautifully. And it was so, like, unadulterated fun.”

It’s clear that for Seyfried, Mean Girls wasn’t just a movie—it was a milestone. And if she has her way, “On Wednesdays, we wear pink” might just be her eternal epitaph.
