Informed skepticism can be respected. Willful ignorance cannot.
I read a story on Medium.com yesterday in which the author asserted that no valid use cases for crypto have been proven.
Many of those who responded to the story echoed the author’s position.
The assertion is just not true.
Whether the author is simply ignorant of the facts or had some other reason for writing, I cannot say. There are certainly some who remain skeptical of the utility of crypto, but my guess is that most who have taken any time to study the subject will have only selective skepticism.
It is true that there are thousands of junk coins and crypto projects out there that have been created only to relieve the unsuspecting of their money. And we’ve all read about the major frauds and many misuses of crypto.
There is no excusing any of that.
But that’s not all of crypto. If it were, we would not be seeing the powerful groundswell of interest and adoption that cannot be denied.
Hundreds of billions of dollars of “smart money” have been invested in the crypto space in the past few years. And 2024 saw the first moves into crypto by fiduciaries like pension plans.
