Razer’s Kuromi PC peripherals are the upgrade my gaming desk needed

When our hardware team asked who wanted to review the Kuromi Razer collection, I couldn’t have responded faster. After all, it’s the perfect set to accompany my Hello Kitty Island Adventure obsession.

Perfect for any catgirl – or catgoth – the Kuromi collection from Razer features the Sanrio character’s iconic black, pink, and lilac color scheme, and is comprised of a keyboard, headset, mouse, mouse mat, and even a licensed edition of the Leviathan X soundbar.

As a whole, the set looks incredible on my desk. So much so, in fact, that I’ve leaned fully into the lilac aesthetic and bought matching stationery. I’ve even kept my desk tidy since adorning it with the collection. Using the accompanying Razer Chroma app, it’s particularly crucial to set up a pretty light display.

Speaking of lighting, a huge downside to the overall look of the set is that the mouse, a Kuromi-themed Deathadder, comes with non-customizable lighting. A bubblegum pink glow illuminates the wheel and Kuromi’s skull logo, but cannot be changed. However, that’s not my complaint. The color is perfect, and my issue is that I’m struggling to match the color on the other peripherals within Razer Chroma, meaning the mouse never quite complements everything else.

That said, I have few other gripes with the design of the Kuromi collection. Every item is still mostly black, and a grey repeated pattern is subtle enough not to overpower your space. The pastel lilac details beautifully complement the black without being too much. The only other complaint for me is in regard to the headset.

I’ve been using the Razer Kraken Tournament Edition for years, which was a fine headset, but I found the round earcups hurt my ears during prolonged use. The Kuromi Kitty, like other newer Kraken headsets, has slightly elongated ear cups, enough to be much more comfortable. I’ve worn the cute purple and black headphones for hours on end with no trouble at all.

However, as a Bluetooth-only headset, I had some issues with setup, and since you can’t use the headphones wired, you can’t ever forget to charge them up. I wouldn’t ever choose a Bluetooth-only headset, but if you’re familiar with the single-connection approach, then this headset won’t provide any shocks. Additionally, the Kuromi ears, while an adorable novelty, can’t be removed, and are a little too obvious to make this an attractive headset to wear out and about. For your cat girl needs, I’d sooner recommend just getting the detachable Razer Kitty Ears and attaching them to another headset.

The Ornata V3 tenkeyless keyboard is my favorite part of the collection, which actually came as a surprise. I know it’s strange these days, but I regularly use a num pad, so specifically opt for full-size keyboards. I was worried that this would be a huge mark against the tenkeyless for me personally, but I haven’t missed it one bit.

Additionally, the tactile mecha-membrane clicky switches provide comfortable, satisfying, and accurate typing – even with my long nails. Again, I often choose deeper keys as I thought this was better for my cat-like claws, but both typing and gaming feel far more natural on the low-profile Ornata keys. For the Kuromi-specific details, the Ornata comes with a full set of backlit lilac keycaps.

Like the rest of the set, they look gorgeous with a pink backlight. With only a few subtle Sanrio details on the keyboard itself, the magnetic wrist support features the majority of the design. Not only is it comfortable, but it looks great. The mouse mat is also perfectly created for comfort thanks to its soft fabric, and is just the right size for maneuverability.

Finally, the Leviathan X may not be one of the best computer speakers in terms of sound quality, but it’s a perfectly decent speaker for its price. Unlike the all-black standard version, the Kuromi edition has the perfect shade of lilac cloth on the front to match the rest of the set. The five buttons on the top of the speaker are all lilac as well, and the soundbar also features the same Kuromi design on the top. It’s much nicer to look at than the standard version, especially with the lights set to a pretty pink and when used with the full collection.

Altogether, the Kuromi Razer collection looks incredible as a set, but is also practical, and the pros of each item, even the headset, outweigh any minor flaws. Any Sanrio fan would be lucky to have this collection on their desk, but it’s currently only available for purchase in the US and Asia. If you’re desperate to go full catgirl, a gaming chair completes the set – if anyone wants to donate one to me, I’ll gladly accept.
