Man Is Arrested in Connection With Little Mountain Fire

A man was arrested in connection with the Little Mountain fire, a fast-burning brush fire that was halted by firefighters near San Bernardino, Calif., on Wednesday, the police said.

The small blaze was stopped on Wednesday by San Bernardino County fire crews, who said there had been no injuries or damage to structures reported. It had burned 34 acres as of Thursday morning, according to Cal Fire, in an area about 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

The San Bernardino police said in a statement that officers had arrested the man on suspicion of offenses including “reckless burning,” a felony.

California officials have made other arrests for arson as wildfires have ravaged the Los Angeles area over the last two weeks. The Palisades and Eaton fires, which remain active, have killed at least 25 people and destroyed more than 10,000 structures. Their causes remain under investigation.

Tens of thousands of residents remain under mandatory evacuation orders. As of Thursday morning, the Palisades fire near Malibu and the Pacific Palisades neighborhood was only 21 percent contained. The Eaton fire, burning near Pasadena, was 55 percent contained.
